New Business

Hi I'm trying to start up my own business selling various items. I have been using alibaba to try and locate suppliers. How can you tell if a business offer is genuine or not? I'm based in England, how/when will I pay for import taxes etc? Roughly how much? I have checked out Inland Revenue but they're not very clear! If you have any other tips, I would love to hear them!! :-)

Import taxes are usually under Customs Clearance Department, not the Inland Revenue. They are two different separate entities. However you may engage with your local freight forwarder and ask them to settle your taxes and freight forwarding for you. They can then inform you how much taxes you are charged and whether the items need any special liecense and permit.
